Once you have signed up for a Gradwell VoIP service you will probably keen to make your first phone call. This guide aims to walk you through that process.
You will need the confirmation email that we sent you, as this will contain important information to help you use the service.
Making your first call
To make your first call, you will either need to configure a softphone on your computer or setup a VoIP phone. This will register your present location with our phone service and allow us to send calls to you. Guides for each are below.
Once you have configured a softphone or VoIP phone you will be able to dial any phone number to make a call - just dial the number you wish to call just like you would on any normal phone. The other party will see the telephone number that was assigned to you when you purchased your Gradwell service. Anyone calling your phone number will be automatically forwarded to you - they won't even know that you're using a VoIP service.
Configure a softphone
A softphone is a piece of software that you can run on your computer to make and receive VoIP calls. They are simple to setup and use. They are also usually free, and you just need a headset for good quality audio.
Many of our customers use the Zoiper softphone, and if you follow the guide here then you should find it only takes around five minutes to setup for the first time.
You will need to know your VoIP extension number and password - both of these are supplied in the signup email.
Setup a VoIP phone
Alternatively you can use a VoIP phone for your calls. These have the added benefit of looking and working just like a 'normal' phone, and can be used even when your computer is switched off.

If you have purchased a VoIP phone from Gradwell we will automatically configure your extension for you when you turn the device on. Simply connect it as shown in the setup guide that comes with the phone, turn it on and leave it to initialise for a couple of minutes.

Your Gradwell control panel
We provide a control panel to allow you to manage your service anywhere with an internet connection. Simply visit https://login.gradwell.com.
You will need to know the email address and password that you used to register with us. You may also be prompted for the security phrase that you set on registration.
You have two ways of paying for your Gradwell VoIP service:
- In arrears on receipt of an invoice (by Direct Debit or by saving your card details)
- In advance by adding credit to your account
If you pay in arrears, we will send you an invoice and automatically schedule a payment. If this fails, your account will be placed on hold until we receive payment. You can call customer services to make a payment or visit https://pay.gradwell.com.
If you pay in advance, you can add credit by visiting https://pay.gradwell.com. To check credit remaining on your account login to your control panel and click the Credit & Minutes link from the left hand menu.
If you wish to register to use Direct Debit, simply head here and complete the form.
