If you have ordered failover resilience with your Fibreline service, you have an extra layer of protection against service outages in the form of a backup circuit that is automatically used if a break in transmission is detected.
In order to manage this failover, Gradwell place extra equipment at your premises (a Cisco router). This will be installed by an engineer by appointment before your circuit goes live. This is not a customer router, and you will need to plug your own configured equipment into it.
The purpose of this failover unit is to take in both primary and backup circuit and monitor them, reporting back to Gradwell the status of them. In the event of an outage on the primary circuit, it will automatically fail over within seconds to the backup circuit using BGP. In most cases, there should be minimal impact on your operation as the switchover happens so quickly.
The unit will also report to Gradwell if there is a problem with the backup circuit at any time (including when it is not in use for failover), which prevents an issue with the backup circuit only being spotted when it is most needed!
All alerts on detected problems are picked up by Gradwell's 24/7 network team, allowing us to start he diagnostic process for you. Once any issue has been resolved you will automatically be returned to the primary circuit.
The demarcation point for the service is the RJ45 port on the Cisco marked GE 0/1. There should be no need to touch any of the other cables on the unit unless instructed to do so by the Gradwell support team.
